We provide land for community infrastructure and public needs such as campgrounds, parks, baseball and soccer fields, golf courses, and many other uses. LADWP leases land to others who develop trails and campgrounds and, at times, takes a more direct role to support the communities throughout the Owens Valley.

Scientific Research & Field Trips
Scientific research and field trips are permitted on City of Los Angeles property in the Eastern Sierra. We require that you submit a request for a Letter of Permission (LOP). Please contact the Real Estate Team for more information on acquiring an LOP.

*Please be aware that all permitting and requests can take time and that you are advised to begin this well in advance of your planned start date.

Historic and Pre-Historic Artifacts
Removal of Historic and Pre-historic artifacts from City property The City of Los Angeles does not permit the removal of any historic or pre-historic items from its property. Metal detecting is prohibited on City of Los Angeles property as well. LADWP will prosecute any person(s) found tampering with cultural or historical resources to the fullest extent of the law.

wildfire mitigation plan

We have developed a Wildfire Mitigation Plan in accordance with California State Law. This Plan describes the steps that we will take to mitigate the threat of wildfires caused by electrical lines and equipment. On an annual basis, this Plan is reviewed, updated as needed, and presented to the LADWP Board of Water and Power Commissioners.
